The Society participates in and runs a number of activities to encouraging the public and young people to appreciate and engage with mathematics.

Popular Lectures

The 新澳开奖Popular Lecture is an annual talk given by a mathematician about mathematics, which is accessible and inspiring to the general public. The event was created to appeal to people who have an interest in high-level mathematics but who do not necessarily have high-level training.听

LMS/Gresham Lectures

听in London has been presenting mathematics lectures to the public since 1598, when Henry Briggs (co-inventor of logarithms) was appointed the first Gresham Professor of Geometry.听In 2007, the 新澳开奖and Gresham College established a yearly joint mathematics lecture, usually held in May.

Holgate Lectures and Workshops

The Holgate Lectures and Workshops scheme provides mathematics experts who are willing to give a talk or run a workshop on a mathematical subject to groups of students or teachers. The sessions are of mathematical content and are not, for example, careers talks.听

Mathematics Communication and Outreach Workshops

The 新澳开奖runs two annual workshops,听for beginners and for advanced practitioners, on mathematics communication and outreach. For the past three years these have been led by听mathematicians and maths communicators听听补苍诲听听as interactive training sessions, covering the skills and techniques required to communicate maths effectively.
